I will explain what an outer automorphism ("symmetry of a symmetry") is and how one can understand CP transformations as a special class of outer automorphisms. I will show how this knowledge can be used in order to construct models with explicit geometrical CP violation. Based on the example of a 3HDM i will then discuss outer automorphism transformation which are not CP transformations. These transformations allow us to substantially reduce the physical parameter space of a model, calculate the VEVs in a very simple way, and thereby predict the phases for spontaneous geometrical CP violation.
