Are There Hidden Scalars in LHC Higgs Results?

Abstract

The Higgs boson was recently discovered at the LHC, and we now have plnety of data concerning the behaviour of the scalar sector. Within the two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM), three extra scalar particles (two neutral and one charged) are predicted, and we analyse what the current LHC data tells us about their existence. The fact that we have not yet observed such particles in seaches for W, Z and tau pairs is easily accomodated within the 2HDM, although it constrains the model's parameter space. Of greater interest is the possibility that the heavier scalar states are being produced at the LHC but decay to states involving other scalars, namely the lightest Higgs h. For a wide range of 2HDM parameters this is an exciting possibility, meaning that the extra scalars would be revealed through an enhanced number of produced Higgs h.
